The purpose of the lottery fund is to clearly and efficiently manage or use profits generated from
the lottery business. The fund is made of profits in which the prize money and operational costs
are subtracted from the sales proceeds, profits generated by managing the fund and unclaimed
prize money.
The fund amount is USD 2.0 billion a year, and used to improve public welfare. In accordance with the Lottery Tickets and Lottery Fund Act, 35 percent of the fund goes to statutory allocation projects set by law while the remaining 65 percent is used for public services selected by the Korea Lottery Commission to help the underprivileged class in society.
The lottery fund that goes through statutory allocation is used to expand science and culture and support facilities for daily sports, while the fund for public services is used to support rental housing and help the neglected in society such as multicultural families and households headed by a single parent.
